Lanehead Outdoor Education Centre is provided jointly by the Boroughs of Middlesbrough, Stockton on Tees, Redcar & Cleveland, and Hartlepool. The Centre is situated in Coniston, just over 80 miles West of Middlesbrough. It lies in the heart of the Lake District National Park on the shores of Coniston Water.
It has immediate access to a variety of wild country, which includes the high mountains, forests, lakes and rivers.
The setting is perfect. Behind the Centre is the forest of Grizedale, whilst opposite, across the water, lie some of Cumbria’s most interesting mountainous fells. The highest peak in this area is the Old Man of Coniston at 803m (over 2500ft). The landscape is dominated by mountains, rivers, cliffs and lakes.
These features are utilised by the experienced Centre staff to provide adventurous activities in dramatic settings.
The Lake District has not only inspired writers and artists, but also left great impressions on all those visiting Lanehead too.
All of the staff are fully qualified and very experienced. Lanehead has been inspected by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority .
Lanehead not only offers Outdoor Education courses for groups from its supporting authorities, but is also available for outside users.
Courses can be individually tailored to suit the group’s needs and budget or the centre is available to rent as a self catering facility, either to organised groups or to family groups who require a large space for several families to share. Outdoor activities are available to self catering groups staying at the centre by prior arrangement.
