Caving is a very popular activity with our visitors. We
travel for the day over to the Yorkshire Dales where there is a vast range of
caves from fantastic introductory caves to some very technical caves for
experienced cavers.
With our beginner groups we tend to use the Ribblehead
caves or Long Churn in the Alum pot system, which is quite probably the most
interesting and varied introductory cave in the country.
There are easy walking
stream passages with dry oxbows( offering more of a challenge to the
adventurous members of the group) as well as pools to traverse, waterfalls to
ascend and the infamous ‘Cheesepress' squeeze. Whatever the size or ability of
the individual, Longchurn can offer a challenge and experience that they will
never forget.
Caving is undertaken throughout the year under the
supervision of qualified and experienced staff. Lanehead is lucky to have a CIC
on the staff and all staff leading groups in the caves will be qualified to at
least LCL Award.
