Lanehead is situated in the heart of excellent mountain
biking territory with hundreds of kilometres of trails radiating from the
doorstep to suit all abilities and fitness levels.
Lanehead is situated at the base of Grizedale forest where
groups can choose from meandering along forest roads, descending and ascending
some of the technical bridleways or testing their skills on the purpose built
North Face Trail.
The Walna Scar road allows you access into the Higher Fells and
heading West from the centre towards Ambleside
opens up a massive network of rideable bridleways and green lanes. There
is also a permanent mountain bike orienteering course in Grizedale Forest,
accessible from the centre. If all this sounds too strenuous, the less
energetic can enjoy a relatively flat trail through fields adjacent to the lake
shore on the west side of Coniston , returning via a disused railway track.
The centre has a fleet of well maintained mountain bikes
available for group use under the guidance of experienced instructors, or you
may choose to hire the centre for the weekend and bring your own bikes for self
led riding.
